Scenarios are installed in a fashion similar to how mods are installed, though there is more variation based on the type of scenario, the engine, and the method of distribution. However, they are still less complex to install than Factions generally are. Please note that scenarios on one engine are not always compatable on others. For example, GAE has a large amount of new Lua functions available, and if those are used, standard Glest may not be able to read the scenario correctly.
Installing for Regular Glest[]
On regular Glest, all scenarios have their own folder in the scenarios folder of the Glest installation directory (ie: scenarios/anarchy/. If you download a new scenario, simply move the scenario's folder into this scenarios directory. To check if you have the correct folder level, open the scenario's folder. If there is an XML file named the same as the folder, you have the correct level. If not, the scenario's folder may be another level in.
Installing for GAE[]
As an Addon[]
Addons are relatively new to GAE, so not very well adapted by modders, though the simplest to install by far. The addon should be a 7z or zip file. Simply place this file in the addons folder of GAE, which is defaultly in your your personal folder/glestadv.
As a Folder[]
If distributed in the same method as a scenario for MegaGlest or regular Glest, it has to be placed directly in GAE's scenarios folder. This is located deep in the installation directory, at share/glestae/gae/scenarios/category (where "category" is any folder. These are categories to separate different types of scenarios. You can place the scenario in an existing one, or make a new folder to create a new category). Just copy the folder into here in the same manner as done for regular Glest. Again, you can verify you have the correct folder structure by opening the scenario's folder. If there's an XML of the same name, you got the correct folder level.
Installing for MegaGlest[]
MegaGlest scenarios are installed the same way as regular Glest, each having its own folder in the scenarios folder of the MegaGlest installation directory (ie: scenarios/anarchy/. If you download a new scenario, simply move the scenario's folder into this scenarios directory. To check if you have the correct folder level, open the scenario's folder. If there is an XML file named the same as the folder, you have the correct level. If not, the scenario's folder may be another level in.
Tips[]
- If having trouble understanding where how the folder structure should look for a newly installed scenario, try taking a look at existing scenarios to see how their folder structure looks.
- MegaGlest and GAE scenarios can place the map for the scenario in their scenario folder to allow a map to be used for just that scenario, and not being displayed on the map list when starting a custom game (this prevents maps made only for scenarios from "breaking" the game).
